The Florida Gators are building serious momentum on the recruiting trail at the quarterback position. After securing one of the top in-state passers in the 2027 class, the Gators are now trending strongly toward landing another promising Florida quarterback in the 2028 cycle.
On Wednesday, On3/Rivals analysts Steve Wiltfong and Blake Alderman both predicted that Sarasota three-star quarterback Hudson West will commit to Florida. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound passer is currently ranked as the third-best quarterback in the state of Florida according to 247Sports.
Florida Gators Receive Crystal Ball Predictions for 2028 QB Hudson West
West has seen his recruitment heat up significantly this summer. He holds Power Four offers from Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, North Carolina, SMU, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech, with many of those offers coming in recent months.
Florida extended an offer to West on June 20 following strong performances at the Gators’ 7-on-7 camp and the Friday Night Lights camp. Those in-person evaluations clearly left a positive impression on head coach Jon Sumrall, offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, and quarterbacks coach Joe Craddock.
Hudson West’s Standout Sophomore Season Fuels Florida Interest
West’s rise is backed by impressive production. As a sophomore at Sarasota High School, he threw for 2,836 yards and 26 touchdowns while tossing only five interceptions and completing 55 percent of his passes. That efficiency, combined with his size and recent camp performances, has elevated him into a priority target for Florida’s staff.
The Gators have already shown a clear commitment to securing in-state quarterback talent. Landing four-star Davin Davidson from Sarasota Cardinal Mooney in the 2027 class gave Florida a strong foundation at the position. Adding West in 2028 would give the program consecutive high-upside local passers and further strengthen its presence in one of the nation’s top recruiting states.
Why Hudson West Fits the Florida Gators’ Recruiting Strategy
Under Jon Sumrall, Florida has emphasized building relationships with in-state prospects and identifying rising talent early. West’s combination of size, arm talent, and production as a sophomore aligns with the type of quarterback the staff is targeting. His strong showings in Gainesville this summer appear to have accelerated the process and put the Gators in the driver’s seat according to multiple recruiting analysts.
If the predictions hold, Florida would continue a positive trend of keeping elite or high-upside Florida quarterbacks home. Securing both Davidson and West would give the Gators significant long-term depth and flexibility at the most important position on the field.
What a Hudson West Commitment Would Mean for Florida Football Recruiting
A commitment from West would represent another win for Sumrall’s staff on the recruiting trail and reinforce Florida’s renewed focus on the state of Florida. It would also signal to other 2028 prospects that the Gators are serious about building a strong quarterback room for the future.
For now, the crystal ball predictions from Wiltfong and Alderman have put West firmly on the radar of Gators fans. With his official offer already in hand and positive evaluations from camp, Florida sits in a strong position as the 2028 recruiting cycle continues to develop.
Hudson West is rising fast, and the Florida Gators look ready to capitalize.
