Ohio State’s 2028 recruiting class already has a clear centerpiece.
Five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison, who committed to the Buckeyes earlier this month, has been ranked as the No. 8 wide receiver in the country by MaxPreps heading into the 2026 high school season. At the same time, Rivals has him listed as the No. 1 overall player in the entire 2028 class.
That combination is rare. It means evaluators see both immediate high-school dominance and long-term, elite college upside in the same prospect.
The Rankings Context
MaxPreps’ ranking focuses on the upcoming 2026 high school season. As a rising junior at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, Harrison is expected to be one of the most productive and impactful wide receivers in the country this fall. The No. 8 ranking places him among a loaded national group and reflects both his past production and the projection for another standout year.
Rivals takes the longer view. By ranking Harrison as the top player in the 2028 class ahead of every other quarterback, edge rusher, offensive lineman, and defensive prospect the service is making a strong statement. In their evaluation, he is not simply the best wide receiver in his cycle. He is the best player available, period.
Few prospects earn that kind of dual recognition this early.
Background and Family Legacy
Harrison measures around 6-foot-1 and 175-180 pounds. He plays at powerhouse St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, a program known for producing high-level talent. His football bloodlines are elite: he is the younger brother of former Ohio State All-American and current NFL wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., and the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison.
The family connection to Columbus is already well established. Jett’s commitment on July 1, 2026, continued that pipeline and gave Ohio State one of the earliest and highest-profile pieces of its 2028 class. He chose the Buckeyes over strong interest from programs that included Oregon and Miami.
Why This Commitment Matters for Ohio State
Ohio State has built a reputation for developing NFL-caliber wide receivers. Landing the consensus top player in a future class reinforces that identity and gives the program a foundational piece two full recruiting cycles away.
Harrison’s presence also strengthens Ohio State’s recruiting footprint in the Northeast and sends a signal to other elite 2028 prospects that the Buckeyes remain a primary destination for top talent. Early commitments of this caliber often help shape the rest of a class.
For a player still two years from campus, the expectations are already high. So far, Harrison has met them by producing on the field and solidifying his pledge to Ohio State.
Looking Ahead
MaxPreps sees a wide receiver ready to dominate the 2026 high school season. Rivals sees the top overall prospect in the 2028 cycle. Ohio State sees a future Buckeye with the talent and pedigree to make an impact in scarlet and gray.
All three perspectives align on one point: Jett Harrison is already one of the most significant commits in the program. The next two high school seasons will determine just how high his ceiling rises, but the foundation is firmly in place.
The Harrison legacy in Columbus is far from finished and the next chapter is just getting started.
