The Ohio State Buckeyes have revealed the themes for all home games during the 2026 college football season. From a historic coaching honor on opening day to a first-ever early Senior Day, Ohio Stadium has a packed lineup of special events on tap this fall. Here’s a full, game-by-game breakdown of everything Buckeye fans need to know.
Week 1 vs. Ball State (Sept. 5): Tressel’s Ring of Honor, Alumni Band Day and Senior Day

Ohio State opens its season at home against Ball State on Sept. 5, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most eventful days of the year. Former head coach Jim Tressel will be enshrined in the Ohio Stadium Ring of Honor, becoming just the third coach in program history to receive the honor, joining Paul Brown and Woody Hayes.
The same day will also feature the Alumni Band & Spirit Day, an annual event for current and former band members that includes both pregame and in-game performances. Rounding out the day is Senior Day — a notable change from tradition, since the ceremony is normally held before the final home game of the season rather than the opener. Every Ohio State senior, along with underclassmen expected to leave early for the NFL, will get the chance to hear their name called during the season’s very first home game.
Week 3 vs. Kent State: Helmet Stripe Theme, Scarlet & Gray Game and Faculty & Staff Appreciation
Ohio State’s Week 3 matchup against Kent State will carry a “Helmet Stripe” theme, a concept first introduced last season during the Week 2 matchup against Ohio University. Fans will be asked to wear specific colors based on where they’re sitting in the stadium, with the combined effect designed to resemble the stripes on an Ohio State helmet.
That same day will also serve as the Scarlet & Gray Game, honoring all of Ohio State’s student-athletes across every sport, along with Faculty & Staff Appreciation, recognizing the university’s staff and educators.
Week 4 vs. Illinois: Hall of Fame Weekend
Ohio State’s Week 4 home matchup against Illinois will double as Hall of Fame Weekend, celebrating every member of the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
Week 6 vs. Maryland: Homecoming Game
The Buckeyes’ Week 6 matchup against Maryland will serve as the Homecoming Game, played during Ohio State’s official Homecoming Weekend.
Nov. 7 vs. Oregon: A Playoff Rematch
Ohio State hosts Oregon on Nov. 7. While no specific theme has been announced for this matchup, the game carries plenty of significance on its own — it will be the first meeting between the two programs since Ohio State’s dominant 41-21 win over Oregon in the College Football Playoff, which followed Oregon’s win over the Buckeyes in Week 6 of that same season.
Nov. 14 vs. Northwestern: Military Appreciation
The Nov. 14 matchup against Northwestern will be Military Appreciation themed, honoring current and former members of the United States Military.
Nov. 28 vs. Michigan: The Game
Ohio State closes out its regular season at home against Michigan on Nov. 28 at 12:00 p.m. No special theme has been assigned to this matchup — and none is needed. As the Buckeyes look to repeat last season’s victory in the rivalry, every fan inside Ohio Stadium will simply be asked to bring the energy for one of the biggest games of the year.
Final Thoughts
Ohio State’s 2026 home schedule blends historic tradition with meaningful new changes, from Jim Tressel’s long-awaited Ring of Honor induction to a Senior Day now taking place in Week 1 instead of the season finale. Between Hall of Fame Weekend, Homecoming, Military Appreciation and a playoff rematch with Oregon, Ohio Stadium is set for a full slate of memorable Saturdays before the season even reaches its final, theme-free showdown with Michigan.
