Ohio State’s Big Ten opener against Illinois just picked up extra recruiting value. Four-star 2028 wide receiver Zyon Robinson is scheduled to visit Columbus for that Week 4 game as the Buckeyes continue building one of the nation’s top classes.
The visit is a return trip. Robinson was already on campus in the spring. Coming back for a game day is a positive sign as Ohio State tries to add more high-end talent at receiver.
Who Is Zyon Robinson?
Robinson is a 6-foot, 185-pound receiver from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. According to the 247Sports Composite, he ranks as the No. 138 player nationally and the No. 19 wide receiver in the 2028 class.
His high school production is already strong for a young prospect. Across the 2024 and 2025 seasons he recorded 68 receptions for 1,183 yards and 15 touchdowns.
He holds offers from Florida, Miami, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Indiana, Florida State and Missouri, among others. SEC programs have been especially active in his recruitment.
Why the Illinois Game Matters
Lettermen Row’s Mick Walker reported that Robinson will be in Columbus for Ohio State’s Week 4 matchup with Illinois, the Buckeyes’ Big Ten opener. That weekend could also be the setting for an Ohio State offer.
A home Big Ten game gives Robinson a chance to see Ohio Stadium at full volume, spend time with the current roster, and evaluate the program under wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton.
Hankton’s first full cycle produced a major 2027 win by keeping five-star Jamier Brown committed. In 2028, Ohio State already has five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison in the class. Robinson would be another high-upside addition if the relationship continues to grow.
Where Ohio State Stands in the 2028 Class
Much of Ohio State’s 2027 work is already done. Attention has shifted to 2028, where the Buckeyes hold a top-ranked class with multiple five-star commitments.
Receiver recruiting remains a priority after Brian Hartline’s departure. Hankton is now the lead voice at the position, and adding Robinson would further strengthen an already impressive 2028 wideout group.
Robinson is also planning other game-day visits this fall, including trips that have been reported to Florida and Tennessee. That means Ohio State is competing in a crowded field, not operating in a vacuum.
What Happens Next
The Illinois weekend is the next checkpoint. Ohio State will try to turn a spring campus visit into a stronger in-season push. Robinson will get a closer look at the environment, the coaching staff, and the current receiver room.
One visit will not decide the recruitment. But a strong showing in Columbus would give the Buckeyes a clearer path to stay in the mix through the rest of the 2028 cycle.
The Bigger Picture
Ohio State does not need Robinson to salvage the 2028 class. The Buckeyes are already well-positioned. What this visit shows is that the staff is still hunting premium receiver talent and using Big Ten home games as recruiting stages.
If Robinson leaves Ohio Stadium impressed, Illinois weekend could become one of the more important unofficial visits of the fall.
